A Call for Help: WV Flood Victims Need Us Now

On February 15, 2025, devastating floods swept through Southern West Virginia, leaving entire communities in ruins. A state of emergency was declared, with McDowell County suffering the worst of the destruction. Families lost everything. Homes were washed away. Lives were forever changed.

On February 26, members of the WVAR Realtor Relief Committee, Paige Powers along with Sarah Milam, a fellow Realtor donating her time to help, traveled to McDowell County to witness the damage firsthand. What they found was complete devastation. They met with Delegate David Green, his wife Andrea, and four families whose homes and livelihoods were destroyed. One of these families includes six children—four of whom are foster kids—now left with nothing.

Andrea Green took immediate action, organizing a flood relief hotline to coordinate aid for affected communities. The response has been overwhelming. Over 1,300 desperate calls have come in—pleas for help from families who have nowhere else to turn. And that number doesn’t even begin to account for those who don’t know where to call or are unable to ask for help.

The Need is Urgent.

The WV Realtor Relief Committee has set aside $5,000 for immediate assistance. The WV Executive Committee has matched that amount. But it’s not enough. WVAR Vice President Alisa Jackson and CEO Ray Joseph have made an urgent appeal to the National Realtor Relief Foundation for additional support.

On March 6, Paige, Sarah, and Alisa returned to McDowell County, delivering much-needed supplies and $1,000 checks to four of the hardest-hit families. They also traveled to War and Bartley—two of the most devastated areas—to personally distribute relief applications to residents who have no way of reaching out for help themselves.

How You Can Help

We need donations, and we need them now. Every dollar given to the WV Realtor Relief Fund will go directly to flood victims. Scan the QR code to contribute today.

And if you’re looking for a unique way to support this cause, we’ve got something fun in store! At the Greenbrier Quarterlies, we’re holding a special fundraiser—selling fresh chicken eggs in pastel cartons for $20 each. One egg may seem small, but together, they’ll make a real difference in rebuilding lives.

West Virginians are resilient, but they shouldn’t have to face this alone. Please, stand with us. Give what you can. Help bring hope to those who need it most.
